Where to stay in New York: Best Hotels in Downtown Manhattan

Downtown and southern parts of the island, a little less touristy, but where has a pleasant environment as Chelsea, Meatpacking District, East Village, Soho, Lower East Side, besides being a short hop from Williamsburg, the bit tastier in Brooklyn.

It’s good because: Officially, you will still be in Midtown (since the only Downtown begins at 14th Street) but the spirit is already to the south of the island. The Commerce and restaurants have personalities and does not seem to be there according to the tourists. The High Line Park accompanies the neighborhood to the Meatpacking District. The stretch between the 7th and 9th avenues has a large contingent of gay residents.

Notice: the region is more cult than glamorous.
Where to stay: the only ones hotel actually located in the neighborhood are great Gem Hotel Chelsea (22nd St. corner of 8th, brand new, in a perfect spot, but avoid the smaller rooms), the bed and breakfast GLS Colonial Inn (22nd between 8th and 9th) and the economical but trendy, Chelsea Savoy (23rd corner of 7th in front of the Eataly; breakfast included).

Slightly above the 23rd Street, you can find comfortable hotels that can serve as a base, as the Hampton Inn Manhattan Chelsea (24 between 7th and 6th; Breakfast included), and the Four Points by Sheraton Manhattan Chelsea (25 between 7th and 6th).

It’s good because: has The High Line Park, has cool stores, has good restaurants, has live music – and has subway at 14th Street to Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Gives walk to Chelsea and Village.

Where to stay: the neighbors Maritime and Dream Downtown (brand new) in 9th at 16th are an excellent point to enjoy much Meatpacking as Chelsea. The sexiest is The Standard, which rises over the High Line Park. The first luxury hotel to repopulate the area was the metallic Gansevoort (9th corner of Gansevoort) – but the most gotten of piece is the Soho House New York (9th corner of 13th) where when staying you first need to associate.

Want to stay in a place that highly cheap in Meatpacking? There is a narrow room with shared bathroom at The Jane (Jane near the corner of Washington) or bed & breakfast Chelsea Pines Inn (14 between 8th and 9th).

It’s good because: it has a residential charm and that alternative was not affected by the real estate holding or by the invasion of chain stores. The NYU (New York University), located in the neighborhood, contributes to this mood. The West Village is more elegant, Greenwich Village, more alternative, and the East Village bohemian.

Notice: there are few hotels, it is an interesting place to rent apartment.
Where to stay: in the West Village near the Meatpacking District has the stylish bed & breakfast Abingdon House (8th between Jane and 12). At the heart of the village is one of my favorite hotels in the city, Washington Square Hotel (Waverly between 6th and 5th, at the corner of Washington Square Park, great breakfast included). The East Village has worked at two hotels hype: the brand new Standard East Village (Cooper Square near the corner of 5th Street) and The Bowery (Bowery corner of 3rd Street) that has a retro charm and is already the mouth of the Lower East Side.

It’s good because: has no place in the city more pleasant to walk. The population density of the sidewalks is much smaller than the Midtown and shop windows more interesting. Lower East Side, Chinatown, Tribeca and even Meatpacking are good places to stroll away.

Notice: The neighborhood has no longer the vanguard vibe of the past.

Where to stay: in the last decade there has been a boom in the hotel area. The best located is one of the pioneers: Mercer (Mercer corner of Prince, for me, remains the most charming). Even in the core of the neighborhood are the discreet 60 Thompson (Thompson, between Broome and Spring), the new The James (Grand between Thompson and 6th.) And friendly Soho Grand (West Broadway between Grand and Canal).

Much of the new hotels are to the west of the 6th. Avenue where the shopping is sparser. For there are the glassed Trump Soho (Spring between 6th.and Varick) Courtyard by Marriott Manhattan Soho good for families (Varick between Charlton and King; some rooms have two large beds); Four Points by Sheraton Soho Village (Charlton between Varick and Hudson); and economic Hampton Inn Manhattan Soho (Watts between 6th. and Varick, breakfast included).

This is good because: Nolita maintain the beauty of the past Soho, while the Lower East Side is still in the process of becoming bourgeois. Already Chinatown … well, they have a good price.

Notice: Chinatown totally dead at night, an excellent area to educate you regarding within the spring is Little Italy. The actual scents regarding foods from Little France alone on a daily basis is actually heavenly, however on the end of the week, you can gain energy just by sniffing the particular aromas regarding cooking loaf of bread, lean meats, vegetables, entree and deserts. While experiencing the food, there are numerous stores as well as kiosks which you could obtain just about everything, a time of faux developer totes, timepieces, scarfs, jewelry, perfume and garments. It’s also possible to discover guides, movies, suitcases, hats, along with just about anything in addition you would like.

Where to stay: The most interesting region is the Nolitan (Kennmare corner of Elizabeth; breakfast included). But the emphasis Mondrian Soho (Crosby between Howard and Grand) is a gray area between Little Italy and Chinatown – and the modest Solita (Grand between Lafayette and Centre). In the Chinatown Best Western Bowery Hanbee (Grand nearly Bowery; breakfast included) are on the night of the Bowery and LES, whereas the Holiday Inn Soho (Lafayette between Canal and Howard), Azure (Lafayette corner of Canal) and Tribeca Blu (Canal between Broadway and Lafayette ), are close to Tribeca.

In the Lower East Side, the most tchãs are Thompson LES (Allen between Houston and Stanton) and the Hotel on Rivington (Rivington between Ludlow and Essex). Intermediate good options: The Gem Soho (East Houston between Forsyth and Eldridge) and the Off Soho Suites (Rivington between Chrystie and Bowery). Alternative: Comfort Inn Lower East Side (Ludlow between Rivington and Stanton; breakfast included).

It’s good because: the southern tip of the island has a rhythm and provides a different perspective from the rest of the island. Housing prices are friendly at the weekend in the Financial District.
Notice: do not expect the climatic environment of Chelsea or Village nor appealing trading as Soho.
Where to stay: in TriBeCa, the Tribeca Grand (6a. between White and Walker) and the Hilton Garden Inn Tribeca (6a. between Ericsson and Laigh) at Soho, the Smyth (West Broadway between Chambers and Warren) has the label, Thompson and Cosmopolitan (West Broadway between Chambers and Reade) option is a with a good cost X benefit ratio for those who enjoy one small hotel of European style.
In the Financial District, look for deals weekend five stars as the Ritz-Carlton Battery Park (West corner of Battery Place) and the Andaz Wall Street (Wall between Pearl and Water).
