Turkish Bath Tour Holidays 2014

In Western Europe, the Turkish bath as a method of cleansing the body and relaxation was particularly popular during theVictoria . The process involved in taking a Turkish bath is similar to that of a sauna, but is more closely related to the ancient Roman bathing practices.

turkish bath istanbul
A person taking a Turkish bath first relaxes in a room (known as the warm room) that is heated by a continuous flow of hot, dry air allowing the bather to perspire freely. Bathers may then move to an even hotter room (known as the hot room) before splashing themselves with cold water. After performing a full body wash and receiving a massage , bathers finally retire to the cooling-room for a period of relaxation.

Cemberlitas Bath is located on Çemberlitas Square on Divanyolu Street situated in the midst of some of Istanbul’s greatest monuments. It is next to the Vezirhan monument erected by Constantine I (324 - 327). The Köprülü Mahmud Pasa complex with its mosque, school and tombs are directly opposite the bath and at its sides are the Vezir Han and the old university building. Also in the near vicinity of the bath are the tomb of Sultan Mahmut II and its treasury, the Köprülü Library, the Atik Pasa Mosque and school and the tomb of Ali Baba.

Gedikpasa Bath "Gedikpaþa Turkish Bath" is open every day from 06:00-24:00 hours for male and female customers at the same time,in different parts. After paying the price to the cashier sections at the entrance, customers go to the changing cabins at the square section. After taking off cloths and locking the contents in the cabin customers take on their "peþtemal"(a kind of long towel used in Turkish Bath)and go to "hot"(Washing Section)section od the Turkish Bath .There is a centre stone(Göbektaþý-marbel platform)in te middle of this section and basins of the bath for washing, surrounding the centre stone and sauna at the opposite side of the centre stone(Göbektasi)for a healthy sweating.Ceiling of the bath is covered with several small and big domes which were made in Horasan.Turkish Bath has a unique pool for people who want to taje a dip.

Cagaloglu Bath

It’s located in Cagaloglu neighborhood near the Underground Cistern. The hammam was built by an unknown architect in 1741 by the order of Sultan Mahmut I to provide revenue for the library of Sultan Mahmut and the Aya Sofya (Hagia Sophia) Mosque at that time.

The hammam has separate sections for both men and women. It combines different Ottoman architectural styles and was the last of the great hammams to be built in the city before their construction was forbidden by Sultan Mustafa III in 1768, because of the increasing needs for water and wood in Istanbul.

The door of the women’s section is on a side street called Hamam street, while the men’s entrance is from the main road of Yerebatan street. After entering, in the middle is a pool with a waterjet and dressing rooms around. The domes are supported by arches and columns. After the cold area (sogukluk), you enter in the hot area (sicaklik). There is a marble platform (gobektasi) in the center, surrounded by bathing cubicles (halvets) in all four corners.
