The city of Izmir is the third largest in Turkey and has a busy port on the Aegean Sea. Kusadasi is one of the main resorts in the Izmir holiday region, lying south of the city. Powdery sand beaches stretch along the beautiful coastline washed by the warm clear waters of the Aegean. Enjoy Izmir holidays in Kusadasi in the attractive little cafes and restaurants dotted along the palm-lined boulevard. Excellent facilities for a variety of water sports are available along the fine stretch of sun-baked coastline on Izmir Region holidays.

Izmir Region holidays in the north present the beautiful Cesme peninsula with its stretches of fine sandy beaches. Visitors can stretch out on the warm sand, enjoy a variety of water sports or take a boat trip along the coast and visit the nearby islands. The 14th century Genoese fortress in the centre is a magnificent sight and the town is a nice place to wander around and stop at one of the many excellent fish restaurants. Just south of the centre, the beach at Altinkum is one of the best in the area. For anyone enjoying Izmir Turkey holidays around the Cesme Peninsula the Altinkum beach is a great place to catch some rays.

Kalamaki is an ideal place to enjoy a picnic. Situated in several idyllic bays, this national park area has all the necessary facilities for a great day out, including lots of picnic tables and benches. Izmir holidays are certainly not without their cultural aspects. There are important historical sites in the region including Ephesus, Didyma, Priene and Miletos. The ruins of Ephesus are on the Side of a fertile valley. The extensive ruins include the theatre, library and gymnasium of this once vital trading centre of the ancient world. The awe inspiring ruins of an ancient temple dedicated to Apollo can be found at Didyma. The temple was so admired that its reputation once surpassed even that of the oracle at Delphi.
