Hamilton Island is one of the most popular Islands in the Whitsunday largely because of being largest inhabitable island. Located in Queensland , Australia the island was formed just like most of Whitsunday group of islands due to the rising of sea levels that created many drowned mountains which are situated very close to Australia’s east coast. Over the years, the popularity of Hamilton Island among tourists has increased considerably and was in fact featured in the promotion of the ‘Best Job in the World.’ The island usually hosts the yearly Hamilton Island festival for Race Week Yachting. During this festival, over 150 yachts usually gather from New Zealand and Australia for racing around the islands for one week. At least two successful films have been filmed on Hamilton Island i.e. Muriel’s wedding of 1994 and the Fool’s Gold released in 2008.
